You can improve the shape, size and colour of your teeth with porcelain veneers.

These are thin porcelain facings that are bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth. If you choose to have porcelain veneers, you will go through a smile design and trial smile process involving clinical photographs and accurate 3D scans and models of your teeth, so you will see and feel how porcelain veneers may feel and look in your mouth.

The trial smile process enables you to try out a plastic mock-up of your veneers in your mouth over a few days. This is done without any preparation or damage to your teeth, and it enables you to really try out the idea of having porcelain veneers before deciding for sure if it is something you want to go ahead with.

Designing your smile

We work with you to understand exactly what you are hoping for with your new smile. We analyse your face closely, so your new teeth will fit your face ideally, in terms of smiling, chewing and speaking, your face and smile centre lines, your bite level, your gum line and tooth shapes. You may prefer a specific tooth shape – examples are square, oval, ‘squoval’ and tapered. Often the best choice of tooth shape for you is linked to your natural face shape. You will consider these options during your smile design process.

Take a look at the Smile Gallery to see examples of porcelain veneer results.

Are veneers damaging to the teeth?

We will always be as minimally invasive as possible to preserve the health of your teeth. In the past, veneers required teeth to be shaved down considerably. Modern techniques involve far less damage to the outer enamel layer of teeth; in some cases, it is possible to place ‘no preparation veneers’. The level of preparation needed will be established during your smile design process, and often you will be shown the results achievable with different levels of tooth preparation.

How to maintain your veneers

It is important that you brush and floss around your veneers every day to keep your gums healthy and prevent tooth decay around your veneers. You should also attend professional hygiene treatments every 3 months, and if you are given a protective nightguard, you should wear this every night. By taking good care of your veneers, you will help them to last as long as possible. Most people need to replace their veneers every 10 or so years.
